Job description

In this role as Indirect Tax Manager, you will report to the VP of Tax and you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of US and Canada indirect tax, as well as managing various third-party consultant projects. 

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with sales and use tax obligations across all Norstella companies, including validation of periodic returns prepared by third-party consultants.
  • Manage use tax process, including review of vendor invoice reports and communication of use tax reporting and accruals to various stakeholders.
  • Validate and provide input on sales and use tax models and tools.
  • Ensure that the company is collecting and paying the correct sales tax on both customer and vendor invoices.
  • Research taxability of new products and determine correct taxability.
  • Validate and provide guidance on Avalara tax coding across all Norstella products.
  • Act as a primary resource for various tax questions that arise during the normal course of business.
  • Handle payment of tax liabilities.
  • Manage audits with various taxing authorities.
  •  Resolve notices from taxing authorities.
  •  Maintain exemption certificates on file from customers and ensure that records are complete and current.

Key requirements  

  • 5-7 years US tax experience, particularly with indirect tax, in public accounting and/or a large multinational corporation.
  • Organized and able to prioritize while juggling competing responsibilities.
  • Proven record of working efficiently and continuing to find ways to improve processes
  • Ability to work independently, be accountable, and own the processes with minimal oversight.
  • Comfortable researching and drawing conclusions, and communicating those conclusions in a succinct manner to internal and external stakeholders (management, customers, etc.).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office systems.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $90,000 to $138,000.  It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to base salary and a competitive benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
